What it is

VeloPhex Browser Automation connects Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge to the VeloPhex automation software installed on the same computer, so that automations built in VeloPhex Studio can find and act on elements in the pages you open: in your own profile, signed in as you, including inside iframes and shadow roots.

It does nothing on its own. It needs the VeloPhex Browser Host, which the VeloPhex Studio and VeloPhex Robot installers place on the computer. Without it the extension shows "Not connected" and reads nothing.

What it does when connected

  • Lets Studio's element picker and Object Repository see the page you point at.
  • Lets an automation find its elements, click, type, read text, select options and extract tables.
  • Lets an automation open, switch and close the tabs it needs, wait for a page to load, and take a screenshot of a tab when asked.
  • Tells an automation when the page it is working on shows an alert, confirm or prompt dialog, and what it says (only on a tab an automation is attached to; nothing is reported from other tabs).
  • Lets an automation read, set or remove the cookies of the page it is working on, when its author uses the browser storage steps.
  • Lets an automation choose files for a page's upload field, and wait for a file the page downloads to finish.
  • Lets an automation work in a private (Incognito / InPrivate) window that the automation opened itself, if you allow the extension in private windows.

What it never does

  • Send anything off your computer: it talks only to the locally installed VeloPhex host and makes no network requests.
  • Read a password field's value.
  • Work in a private window you opened yourself.
  • Use the browser's debugger or history, or start, open, move or delete a download.

A page an automation is working on shows a small "VeloPhex automation active" indicator in its bottom-right corner.

Install

  1. Install VeloPhex Studio or VeloPhex Robot. The installer registers the VeloPhex Browser Host for Chrome and Edge.
  2. Add VeloPhex Browser Automation from the Chrome Web Store or Microsoft Edge Add-ons.
  3. Open the extension's toolbar popup: it shows "Connected" with the extension and host versions.

Privacy

Everything the extension reads from a page is passed to the VeloPhex Browser Host on the same computer and from there to the VeloPhex software you installed. Nothing is sent to VeloPhex or any third party. Read the full browser extension privacy policy.
